A Viral AI Pet: Is Building Your Own More Cost-Effective?!
Its brain is powered by GPT-4o, and its appearance is shown below.
This is a "little pet" that a guy built himself, inspired by the Pixar lamp robot that went viral online recently.
Although it might look a bit sanity-draining, it actually has a name rooted in Cthulhu mythology: Shoggoth. (In lore, a Shoggoth is an intelligent, gelatinous creature capable of mimicking and generating various forms.)
But don’t let its wild appearance fool you—Shoggoth is very friendly.
It can converse, interact, and even has its own quirky sense of style, like so:
Shoggoth uses the movements of its head tentacles to effectively convey its intentions, confidence, attention, and other internal states.
With simple 3D printing, integration of GPT-4o’s API, and reinforcement learning (RL) control strategies, it can act like a “pet,” engaging in natural conversations with humans effortlessly.
So cool! In the future, childhood companions might no longer be plush toys but AI “pets” instead?
